In contemporary urban homes, furniture is no longer just functional. It defines how a space feels, how it flows, and how architecture is experienced. In this high-rise apartment in Kolkata overlooking the iconic Victoria Memorial, the furniture selection was designed to create a calm, balanced environment that complements the dramatic skyline beyond the glass.
The spatial concept for this residence was developed by Arryan Kanodia, who envisioned an open living environment where architecture, natural light and the cityscape become part of everyday living. The furniture for this space was carefully curated by Praveen Kanodia, focusing on proportion, visual lightness and tactile richness.
Together, the result is a living room that feels refined yet relaxed — a space where contemporary luxury furniture supports the architecture without competing with the view.

Design Approach: Furniture that Respects the View
When an apartment overlooks a landmark such as the Victoria Memorial, the interior must be carefully balanced. Heavy furniture or visual clutter would distract from the architectural panorama outside.
The approach here was to keep the furniture silhouettes low and sculptural. A neutral palette of warm woods, soft greys and olive accents ensures the space feels calm while allowing the skyline to remain the natural focal point.
Floor-to-ceiling windows bring the city into the living room, while the furniture creates an inviting foreground that encourages conversation and relaxation.
Curating Modern Luxury Furniture
The core of the living room is defined by a generous contemporary sofa designed for both comfort and visual balance. Its low profile maintains an uninterrupted line of sight toward the skyline while providing ample seating for social gatherings.
Two houndstooth lounge chairs introduce texture and subtle contrast. Their sculptural forms add character without overpowering the calm composition of the room.
Each piece was selected to contribute to a layered yet uncluttered environment — a hallmark of modern luxury interiors.

"Great furniture should never compete with the architecture of a space. In high-rise homes especially, the goal is to create pieces that feel sculptural yet light — furniture that frames the view rather than blocking it."
Sculptural Coffee Tables as Functional Art
The centre of the room is anchored by sculptural coffee tables that function as both furniture and art objects. Their layered organic forms introduce depth and visual interest while maintaining an open, breathable layout.
Curated decor objects and books are intentionally minimal, allowing the tables themselves to remain the focal point.

Furniture for High-Rise Urban Living
High-rise apartments demand a different approach to furniture selection than traditional homes. Every piece must consider scale, openness and sight lines.
Low seating, open-frame tables and carefully proportioned lounge chairs help create a living room that feels spacious rather than crowded. This approach allows the architecture and natural light to remain central to the experience of the space.
Thoughtful furniture curation ensures that the living room functions as both a comfortable social zone and a quiet retreat within the city.
A Living Room Designed for the Skyline
Luxury interiors are rarely defined by a single object. Instead, they emerge from the careful composition of architecture, furniture and curated decor.
In this Kolkata residence, the spatial vision developed by Arryan Kanodia and the furniture curation by Praveen Kanodia work together to create a living environment that feels balanced, contemporary and timeless.
